The Explorers Room

Where Toddlers Grow in Confidence, Curiosity and Independence

The toddler years are a wild mix of wonder, discovery and big emotions. At Kids College, our Explorers Room is designed to support your little one through this exciting stage, as they start finding their feet and developing their sense of self.

This is the in-between zone, no longer babies, but not quite preschoolers. It’s a time filled with rapid development, stronger opinions, and an eagerness to learn. We’re here to walk alongside your family through it all, creating a calm, engaging space where your child can grow, explore, and thrive.

Routine That Builds Confidence

Toddlers that know what is coming next, feel secure and confident enough to explore. That’s why we’ve built a predictable, yet flexible, daily routine with just the right balance of structure and freedom.

Our mat sessions have clear goals, and tools like our visual timetable and mat time guidelines help children settle in and feel prepared. It’s not about rigid rules, it’s about creating an environment where your child feels safe enough to stretch their abilities.

Laying the Groundwork for Learning

Every activity in the Explorers Room is designed with purpose. We introduce early concepts through hands-on play that’s both meaningful and fun:

  • Early science through sensory experiments like ‘sink or float’
  • Maths foundations like counting, sorting, and recognising numbers in daily play
  • Early literacy with letter sounds, familiar symbols, and pre-reading experiences.

These aren’t formal lessons, they’re playful moments that build lifelong skills.

Building Independence, One Step at a Time

We focus a lot on independence in the Explorers Room, because capable children are confident children.

We support your toddler in learning to:

  • Pack away their toys
  • Take care of their things
  • Begin toilet learning at their own pace
  • Make healthy choices at mealtimes and throughout the day

These aren’t just school readiness skills, they’re life skills that support their development at home and in the world.

Real Programs That Make a Difference

We use trusted, evidence-based programs woven into our daily rhythm:

  • SDERA Road Safety Education – Teaching basic passenger and pedestrian safety
  • Get Up & Grow – Promoting healthy eating and nutrition awareness
  • Toddler Be Good series – Helping children build self-help and social skills
  • KIDDO Play Active – Boosting physical development and body confidence

Each one is practical, age-appropriate, and supports a different part of your child’s growth.

Social + Emotional Growth in Real Time

This age is full of big feelings and we support children as they learn to navigate them. Sharing, taking turns, joining in games, and expressing emotions are huge achievements for toddlers, and we’re here to guide them through every moment.

We follow evidence-based strategies and a whole-school emotional intelligence approach, using the Kimochi program to help children:

  • Recognise and name feelings
  • Understand what causes emotions
  • Express emotions in healthy ways
  • Start learning how to self-regulate

These skills form the emotional foundation your child will build on for years to come.

Communication Before Words

Many toddlers are still finding their voice, so we use sign language to support early communication. Simple signs paired with songs and gestures help reduce frustration and build your child’s confidence in expressing themselves.

Being understood is powerful, especially before words come easily. We see it boost self-esteem, connection and learning.

Movement, Music and Joyful Learning

Movement is how toddlers learn and we lean into that. Through our Kids n’ Music program, children explore sound, rhythm, and movement in ways that support body awareness, calm, and sensory development.

We also introduce Let’s Get Moving, a fun way to connect physical activity with literacy. This is part of our Active Alphabet approach, where children move, stretch, sing and learn with their whole body engaged.

Celebrating Everyday Wins

Whether it’s using the toilet for the first time, making a new friend, or recognising the first letter of their name, every achievement matters. These small wins are the big moments in your toddler’s world  and we celebrate them all.

We know toddlers are naturally curious, creative and capable. Our job is to give them the safe space, support, and encouragement to discover who they are and what they can do.

We’re In This Together

Raising toddlers is a full-body, full-heart job. We don’t just support your child we support your whole family. Whether it’s helping you through the morning drop-off tears or celebrating the latest milestone, we’re right there with you.

We’d love to welcome you into the Kids College family. Come and see what the Explorers Room is all about and how we can support your child’s next big steps.
